Anthony Farrell - Trainee
Law, Lancaster University
Once I experienced the DLA Piper summer scheme, joining the firm was a no-brainer for me. It seemed like a really friendly place – there was such a nice group of people in the Liverpool office and the work they were doing was really interesting. I got a good balance of things to do on my summer scheme; lots of talks and presentations about what to expect, combined with a good amount of actual work as everyone in each department was looking to give me something to do.
The training experience so far has been really good. You get a lot of responsibility from day one and you are thrown right into it, but not to the point where you think it is too much. The actual training itself is really practical and useful.
I am not going to lie: there are a few mundane bits, but that is to be expected. These jobs give you an understanding of the wider picture and help you realise that you are not just doing things for the sake of it but because they serve a purpose.
As trainees we definitely feel a part of the wider firm and we regularly meet up with the other trainees around the UK. We are by far the biggest firm in Liverpool in my opinion and, because of our international capability, we get the top quality work from a wide range of clients.
I want to go as far as I can with this firm. Looking at my colleagues I can see that there is so much scope to go higher. The sky’s the limit and every trainee is ambitious, but I think you have to be.
It is a top quality firm with really down to earth people. Everyone looks to support you and helps you get the most out of your training contract.
