For me, the appeal of DLA Piper was joining an international firm with an excellent reputation for quality training and opportunities.
Yes, and very varied. During my training contract I assisted with matters ranging from £180m corporate acquisitions, High Court litigation, employment disputes (from director dismissals to discrimination claims) and construction work mediations.
Also varied. Sometimes longer hours during busy patches but when it's quieter I tend to leave on time.
I have been qualified for a year now but my fellow trainees were all very supportive, down to earth personalities and we got on well as a team. Although some of us are now at different places we remain friends.
During my training contract I was fortunate to attend a lot of client meetings and had direct contact with the clients in the litigation areas and employment team where I am now qualified.
Before applying I would definitely recommend spending time researching the firm and more importantly the particular office that you are applying to, as well as the types of work available and direction of that office. Not only will this assist for potential interviews but it is important to know that this is where you want to work at and are committed to.
Yes. It provides first class training and excellent learning resources and courses.
Best: Attending court/tribunal hearings having worked on a particular matter.
Worst: longer hours at times but this doesn't go unappreciated.
